Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program > EFNEP Youth

First, third and fifth grade classrooms in Title One Schools are eligible to receive a series of 6 lessons on nutrition, food safety and physical activity. The series of classes can help teachers meet their health and/or science standards.

Eating a variety of foods from all of the food groups is promoted. Third grades are

  • My Pyramid
  • Grain Group
  • Vegetables and Fruits
  • Milk Group
  • Meat Group
First grade lessons are about fruits and vegetables and include a story:
  • How Fruits and vegetables grow.
  • Parts of the Plant
  • How Much Should I Eat?
  • Eating a Rainbow of Fruits
  • What Is So Great About Fruits and Vegetables?
  • Choosing Health Snacks
Fifth grade lessons include science experiments.
  • What is Healthy?
  • Exploring MyPyramid
  • Get Going with Grains
  • Focus on Fruits, Vary Your Vegetables
  • Calcium for Strong Bones & Teeth
  • Meat, Beans & Oils

First and third grade lessons are 45 minutes.  Fifth grade lessons are 1 hour.

Food tasting is included in all lessons.

Needed items include a table, access to water and electricity and students who want to have fun.

Limited income youth ages 5 to 12 are taught nutrition and cooking skills at Title One Schools. After and summer programs with limited income children are also available.
