Flowering Lawn Pollinator Habitat Improvement Program
We need your help initiating the inaugural Flowering Lawn Pollinator Habitat Improvement Program in Missoula County! The Missoula County Department of Ecology is encouraging habitat improvement for native pollinators throughout the county, and we would like community members to help pilot a program to establish flowering pollinator lawns. These lawns help support a diversity of bee pollinators by incorporating low-growing perennial flowering plants into existing turfgrass lawns. Typical residential landscapes have resource-intensive, low-diversity turfgrass lawns and ornamental plantings that support few native pollinator species and contribute to biodiversity loss and bee declines. Help us improve urban and suburban habitats by establishing a flowering pollinator lawn that can provide floral resources for bees and other pollinators, and that can connect to other habitats such as natural areas and stream corridors.

We are seeking applicants that are willing to gain the needed knowledge and resources and have the yard space and time to establish a 20 x 20 flowering pollinator lawn. Interested individuals or businesses can view program requirements and apply via our website http://www.missoulaeduplace.org/flowering-lawns-project. For more information, contact Marirose Kuhlman via email at mkuhlman@missoulacounty.us or phone at (406) 258-4219.
