Identification
· Roots: Shallow-rooted, grows roots each season and has the capacity to regenerate from its root system.
· Leaves: Leaves mostly located at the base of the plant, have a thin membrane on the inside of the leaf blade at the junction of the leaf sheath and leaf blade.
· Stems: Lower stems are flattened; upper stems are wiry and round in cross-section. Plant ranged in height from eight to 24 inches.
· Flowers: The flowering and seed producing portion of the plant is usually dense with a plume-like appearance and a purple base.
· Seeds/Fruits: Bulblets provide the primary means of reproduction (asexual), each bulblet is a mini plant that can form roots and grow once it falls to the ground.
