You are invited to the Grand Opening of Rocky Mountain Gardens!
Join us on Saturday, September 14th, to wander the gardens and witness the stunning array of plants and landscape designs.
A project of the Missoula County Department of Ecology and Extension, Rocky Mountain Gardens is the first of its kind for Missoula and Montana as a whole. Featuring over 20 distinct growing spaces, the gardens showcase the endless diversity of gardening styles and plant species, and recreate a variety of local ecosystems for the public to experience.
These 2.75-acres, previously used for parking, have been transformed in mere months into a thriving landscape. What was a patch of barren, compacted dirt now showcases thousands of plant species, and sets the stage for education, enjoyment, and exploration.
Our staff has been hard at work alongside a robust showing of volunteers. We couldn’t have made it this far without their help planting, mulching, weeding, and beyond! Additionally, we are so grateful to the many local professionals for donating their time and talent.
Garden City Florascaping designed and installed our Waterwise Meadowscape which showcases a wide array of drought-tolerant plants suitable for Missoula's growing climate. Chisel & Mallet Woodworking erected an artful shade shelter, envisioned by MMW Architects, in just two days despite the blazing sun. Kim Murchison of Clark Fork Organics coached volunteers through the process of taming our tomatoes, and saved our squash from a sea of weeds. These and many more have shared their vision to make Rocky Mountain Gardens a true treasure for the community.
In summary, this project is the product of the community’s support, dedication, and skill. Whether you're a native plant nerd, a dahlia diehard, or looking for a family-friendly weekend activity, the gardens are sure to provide something for everyone.
So, join us for the Grand Opening to wander, wonder, and delight in this awesome place!
