Spring has sprung, and with summer just around the corner, the members of Missoula County 4-H are in full swing, eagerly anticipating the Western Montana Fair. As the school year winds down, 4-H youth are diving headfirst into their projects, fueled by excitement and determination.
Non-Animal Projects:
The members of our Shooting Sports programs have been busy all over Western Montana, competing in various regional competitions, including the state shoot in Bozeman. Now, they’re gearing up for the final event—the fair shoot in July, where they’ll give it their all in their final competition of the season. These youth have been practicing their aim and perfecting their skills, all while enjoying the camaraderie and sportsmanship that 4-H encourages.
Our talented sewing members are working tirelessly creating their final projects for the fair. These members are ready to showcase their craftsmanship and ingenuity when it’s time for judging. Over in the woodworking and welding projects, 4-H members are hard at work bringing their creations to life. Whether it’s a beautifully crafted piece of furniture, a functional welding project, or something entirely unique, the young artisans of Missoula County are proving that hard work and imagination go hand in hand. And members are also busy with the nearly 40 other non-animal projects that they are involved in! There is no shortage of hard work or creativity with the members of Missoula County 4-H!
Animal Projects:
Meanwhile, the project animals are ready for their moment in the spotlight. Over 300 animals, from beef and dairy cattle, to hogs, and sheep and goats, have been registered and are getting into peak condition. The rabbits and chickens have most recently been registered, rounding out the impressive group of livestock that will compete at the fair. These 4-H members have put in countless hours of feeding, grooming, and training to ensure their animals are at their best when the big event arrives. The competitions will begin in July with the Horse Show and the Dog Show kicking things off!
The Countdown to the Fair Begins!
With more than 200 possible projects to explore, these Missoula County kids are excited for the end of the school year and are looking forward to the chance to focus on their 4-H projects full time. Starting in June, 4-H members will sign up for various events at the fair, marking the beginning of the countdown to the much-anticipated weeklong event in August. And let’s just say—sleep will be a rare commodity during that busy week!
Celebrating Hard Work & Teamwork
The fair week is a whirlwind of hard work, fun, and teamwork. There’s bound to be blood, sweat, and the occasional tears, but the members of Missoula County 4-H know it’s all part of the process. They’re determined, proud, and eager to show off everything they’ve learned and accomplished.
This year, they’ll be celebrating more than just the end of another 4-H season—they’ll be celebrating the journey, the friendships, and the incredible sense of accomplishment that comes from pouring heart and soul into something truly special.
As the 4-H year wraps up, these young people are ready to show the world just how much they've grown and achieved.
