Workshop: Seed Cleaning Made Simple
Thresh, Winnow, Scalp, Aspirate... This workshop empowers participants with the fundamental concepts of seed harvest and cleaning. Learn about timing your harvest, seed storage and low-tech tools. We will work hands on with a variety of different species to develop the critical thinking necessary to gather and process seeds.
This workshop will be led by Michael Billington of Nourishing Roots Farm.
Born in Montana, Michael lives on his farm near Flathead Lake with his wise wife and playful daughter. He operates The Native Seed Foundation, a company that has aided thousands of acres of land rehabilitation efforts by gathering and providing Native Seeds. Nourishing Roots Farm is a seed farm and nursery dedicated to investigating resilient plants from around the world and providing them to gardeners. Inspired by the way that landscapes shape culture and vice versa, he seeks knowledge from teachers and ecosystems alike to cultivate true landscape-literacy. By seeking and sharing skills we all become more empowered to live as extensions of the lands we dwell on. Via farming, teaching, seed stewardship, and Earthworks he fosters good relations between people and place.
