Volunteer Event: Dig Dahlia Tubers
Our Dahlia collection is evolving with each passing season. Guided by an experienced team of volunteers, we continue to add new varieties while eliminating those that don't meet our standards. The result is a diverse array of dahlias that cover the spectrum of form, color, and size. We intend to steward a collection that draws visitors from near and far!
What will volunteers do?
Volunteers will remove tubers from the garden beds. This will require the use of tools, primarily digging forks, and the ability to kneel or bend to pull the tubers out of the ground. Volunteers will also be washing the soil off of the tubers to prepare them for storage. This task can be done while standing. Waterproof aprons and gloves will be provided.
NOTE: Tubers will be divided the following day, an indoor activity for which volunteers can be seated.
What will volunteers need to bring or wear?
Please wear closed toed shoes and dress appropriately to be outdoors. This can be a dirty process, so wear clothing you don't mind getting dirty!
REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Please register on POINT* using the link below!

Our volunteers experience a hands-on educational opportunity in this beautiful public space. Work alongside our expert staff, and familiarize yourself with the vast variety of plantings the gardens have to offer.
Volunteering in the gardens is available to people of all experience levels and abilities. We also encourage children to participate, so long as a caretaker is available to guide them!
