Gardening in Montana: A Monthly Learning Series
Third Wednesday of each month
Beginning March 18 and running all year!
Lunch Session: 12:00–1:00 PM
Evening Session: 6:00–7:00 PM
Are you new to Missoula County — or new to gardening in Montana?
Gardening in Western Montana comes with its own set of challenges. Our growing season is short (often safest to plant after June 1), our soils range from rocky and sandy to heavy clay, and we garden primarily in USDA Zones 3–5. Add in hot, dry summers (that seem to be getting hotter), inconsistent moisture, and a variety of persistent pests, and it’s clear that successful gardening here requires region-specific knowledge.
This monthly series is designed for gardeners who want a solid foundation in Montana-specific growing practices. Each month we will focus on one essential topic to help you garden successfully in our unique climate.
We’ll kick off in March with:
Understanding Growing Zones, Climate, and What Thrives in Western Montana
Whether you are just getting started, recently relocated, or simply want to grow smarter in our challenging conditions, this series will build your confidence and skills.
