Who We Are

Extension Services have been in Missoula for over 100 years providing education on food and nutrition, family and consumer economics and human development, horticulture programs and empowering young people through 4-H Clubs. In 1985 the Weed District was combined with the Extension office bringing new opportunities for cooperative landowner weed management projects and youth development. Our joint mission is to provide coordination, educational outreach and training to address the needs of the public in the areas of Land Management, Youth Development, and Family and Consumer Sciences.

Our organizations have been providing coordination, education and outreach, and training to address the needs of the public in the areas of Land Management, Youth Development, and Family and Consumer Sciences. In January of 2023, our organization was rebranded to the Department of Ecology and Extension to better represent the complexity and landscape-scale work we do.

The Department of Ecology & Extension is an overarching department housed under the Lands and Communities division of Missoula County. The Department of Ecology & Extension is an overarching sector of the County Weed District, Aquatic Invasive Species District, Lolo Mosquito District, Missoula Extension, and MSU Extension.
